Michael Watts '11
Michael Watts joined the Saint Ignatius Broadcasting Club during his Sopohomore Year. Watts, a senior (class of 2011), covered every broadcast during the Wildcats run to the state baseball semi-final, and their 2009 football campaign as a play-by-play commentator. Prior to coming on for football and baseball, Watts was a junior varsity tight end for the Wildcats, leaving the team following his second year with the program.
Watts became the head play-by-play man for the Wildcat soccer team's run to the playoffs in 2009, covering all games to the 2009 State Championship. Covering nearly ten games in 2009, he will continue in that role in the coming season. In December he took over as a hockey analyst for the SIBN, heading coverage for the majority of games in the Wildcat's championship season. Watts has also traveled with the basketball team to cover statistics and halftime shows. Watts capped his 2009 season winning the SIBN's first annual Golden Microphone Award given to the top broadcaster with the SIBN.
During home basketball games he is the official voice of the Sullivan Gymnasium as the school's basketball public address announcer. He worked 12 games in that role and will continue to work as a PA announcer in the 2010-2011 season as a senior.
Watts is also currently running the Student Sports Information Department. In April 2010, Watts, Jacob Corrigan and the SSID were awarded the 2009 Gold Medal award by the National High School Sports Publication Awards for their work on the 2009 Saint Ignatius Football Media Guide. The guide is one of many guides Watts has worked on in the past few years. Watts is also involved in constant website maintenance on the SIBN's home site, and on the Wildcats athletic website - www.ignatius.edu. His work earned him the first annual Dick Zunt '50 SSID Award given to the top Sports Information Director at Saint Ignatius.
Watts is also a beat reporter for everything Wildcats for a local online sports site called www.studentathletecleveland.com. Watts has written a series of recaps and articles for the site, contributing reports on numerous Wildcat sporting events.
