Saint Ignatius Student Sports Information Department Wins National Award
Saint Ignatius' first football media guide in twenty years has been lauded by media professionals over the past year. Now, the guide has garnered the local spot light as the Sports Information Department won it's first ever gold medal for excellence in Sports Publications as decided by a panel of experts for the National High School Sports Publication Awards. The guide was the work of Junior Michael Watts, and SSID President and Senior Jacob Corrigan and can be found here.
The award, given to less than twenty publications annually, was given in the "Private School, 1,000-1,500 student, Student-Produced" category. The award represents the first such prize for the department that began under the direction of Brendan Gulick '09 and Jeff McCormick '83 in 2007. The award is an even greater achievement given the club's first media guide was made just one year ago.
Said Corrigan, senior president of the Broadcasting Club and Sports Information Department: "It means alot to be honored for something we put so much time into. We spent countless hours over the summer researching and designing this guide so to be given such a high honor is just awesome. This is the first time we have won this award, so it gives this still growing club some recognition for the work it does. At the same time there are people in this group who don't get this recognition, but their efforts in bringing all the scores, schedules, and action to the fans are just as important."

Watts, who made the first media guide for the 2009 baseball season, added: "Beginning with our first media guide just one year ago, we have worked hard to constantly reform and redesign what we do. We couldn't have done this without the efforts of so many other people. Obviously our sincere thanks goes out to so many, but near the top of the list Jeff McCormick who started the whole thing, Rory Fitzpatrick [Saint Ignatius Athletic Director] who really gave us the flexibility to make such an amazing guide, Jennifer Fight who dealt with the many small details that a guide like this needs to get such a prestigious award, Sean O'Toole who really pushed us to make this a top of the line media relations piece, the entire coaching staff that spent the necessary time to give the coach's notes that provided an inside view to the team, Ken Gillissie who provided so many of the photos, and Watt Printers who generously printed these guides for us - as we know for a fact that the professional appearance was half of the battle."
